Arts & Culture in San Anselmo, CA

San Anselmo’s enthusiasm and dedication to art can be seen all over town. With an established San Anselmo Art Commission, the town actively strives to add cultural character to Ross Valley through all forms of artistic expression. Not only does the commission provide a structure for the creation of art, but it also works to promote and exhibit works by local artists, making San Anselmo a center of art and culture. From festivals and shows to galleries and exhibitions, you will find plenty of places to indulge in artistic passions.

San Anselmo Art and Wine Festival
San Anselmo Chamber of Commerce
(415) 454-2510

Taking place in June, this festival spans San Anselmo Avenue, Bolinas and Tamalpais over the course of a weekend from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday. With free admission, this event features hundreds of presentations from artists, a variety of gourmet food and wine, live music and entertainment, as well as children’s rides and art activities.

Public Art
San Anselmo’s passion for art can be seen in the town’s investment in its public spaces. Local artists have been invited to help enhance the town through the Art in Public Places Program, which visibly enriches the community and supports local artists.

The Obelisk
The Obelisk on the San Anselmo Fire Station’s front lawn illustrates a colorful history of the community in Ross Valley. The images show the progression of San Anselmo through a mosaic of tiles colored by children and residents. The obelisk accompanies a nearby park bench, which sports bricks engraved with the names of all those who contributed to this project.

Sugar Foot
The lawn of Town Hall is home to another piece of San Anselmo art. The sculpture, named Sugar Foot, is of a white tailed deer. A familiar and beloved San Anselmo fixture, Sugar Foot is available for viewing at any time in downtown. The sculpture stands as a reminder of the wildlife that lives within the community.

Memorial Park Water Tank
This piece of public art was sponsored by the San Anselmo Arts Commission in 2004 as a way of beautifying the local park. Painted by artists Donna Ford and Kim Ford-Kitz, with the help of seven local children, the water tank now displays a beautiful underwater scene.
