And it has emerged tragic Robin Williams ashes were scattered at San Francisco Bay just a day after his suicide last week.

The comedy legend's newly released death certificate details what happened to his remains, while also stating his cause of death is still 'pending investigation.'

The State Of California document states the 63-year-old's final disposition was 'scattering in San Francisco Bay off the coast of Marin County,' with the ceremony taking place on August 12.

According to a report on Radar Online, the death certificate also states the Episcopalian's funeral took place at Monte's Chapel Of The Hills, a picturesque funeral home in leafy San Anselmo.

Robin died on the morning of August 11 at his home in nearby Paradise Cay, with the Marin County Sheriff's Office chief deputy coroner later confirming he had hanged himself .

The Good Will Hunting star was survived by his third wife, Susan Schneider, and his three children; Zelda, Zachary and Cody.

A source close to the funnyman claimed earlier this week his suicide was a spontaneous act and was not planned out beforehand.

The confidante of the Oscar winner said they had a conversation a day before his death in which the two spoke about several upcoming projects.

They told TMZ, he had been 'completely engaged in the conversation' and was asking a lot of questions about the deals.

The insider said: 'He [Robin] was unhappy which he often was, but it was nothing unusual... he lived in a dark place.'

They also claimed the Popeye star's family believe that whatever caused him to commit suicide happened shortly before he hanged himself at his California home.

Several theories have surfaced as to why he might have taken his own life.

The actor Rob Schneider, who was a long-term friend of Williams, said he believed the actor's suicide was brought on in part because of new medication he was taking to combat the onset of Parkinson's disease.

He tweeted: ‘Now that we can talk about it #Robin Williams was on a drug treating the symptoms of Parkinson’s. One of the side effects is suicide.’

Experts say Parkinson’s disease can make symptoms of depression worse.
